How God Helps Us

 

 

I have walked through the valley of suffering and sorrow with some of God’s best people.  Together, we have tried to deal with broken homes, broken hearts, broken dreams, and broken bodies.  I was asked again and again questions like, “Why did God let this happen to me?”  “Why didn’t God answer my prayer?” and “How can I go on?”

 

These questions allowed me to struggle again with the question, “What help and hope can we Christians offer people in their time of trouble, tribulation or trial?  How does god help us? 

 

First, he strengthens us.  A man in distress once prayed, “Lord, either lighten my burden or strengthen my back.”  God often times does the later.  The Apostle Paul summed up the Christian hope when he said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  (Philippians 4:13).

 

Second, God satisfies us.  He does not give us every whim and desire of our heart.  But, he does give us what we need.  He helps us be content.  He gives us peace.  David talked this satisfaction when he wrote, “The Lord is my Shepherd.  I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures.  He leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul…” (Psalm 23)

 

Third, he saves us.  Not just from sin, but from ourselves and our situations.  God can take the tragedies of life and bring something out of them.  No experience, no matter how terrible it is, is beyond his redemptive power.  He specializes in turning the darkness of Calvary to the brightness of Easter, so he can transform tragedy to triumph in your life.  He can work in and through life’s worst to bring about good.  “He makes all things beautiful in his time.”  (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

 

God can salvage any situation if we allow him and respond to his grace and love.  God loves you and wants to help you by giving you strength, by giving you satisfaction and salvation.  Trust him today and realize the hope and help that is found in the Lord Jesus Christ!
